Genius

This has been bugging me for years. Well 3 of the last 6 at least. Bill Belichik= genius? BULLSHIT!! Why do I go against the sportswriters and talking heads that seem to praise this man everyday here are the top four reasons:
  1. Geniuses don't wear hoodies with cut off sleeves!! Actually . . . Self respecting, 55 year old men should not wear hoodies with cutoff sleeves. Especially those making millions a year, and on a national stage. As soon as I see a scientist announce the for cure aids at a press conference wearing a hoodie I MAY change my opinion on this. If you do a Google image search for the "genius" you will be disgusted by the amount of hoody shots. The cover of his book has the guy in a sweatshirt. Is that how you would want to be thought of? Not me, but that is why I sit here and write and he coaches maybe.
  2. In the closing moments of the Colts win who stood on the sideline doing nothing but pulling on the neckline of the magical sweatshirt. Well if I have to tell you go back to the beginning of this post you fucking idiot. Yup . . as the golden boy stood on the sideline with his normal look of determination (I hate him too but that is for later) Billy B did nothing other than stand there tugging his neckline. Granted as a television viewer I was only allowed to see certain snippets of the sideline actions since the Tom Brady network is not yet fully been inked. It surprises me with as much as the media loves the Brain Trust and the Golden Boy, especially in the matchup against the Colts, that we dont get a seperate channel with a split screen viewing for each of the chosen. In those closing moments I never once saw coaching advice (hey tom no interceptions here OK?), or even emotion. Maybe I missed it though.
  3. Ok what makes him a genius? 3 Superbowl in 5 make it six years? WAIT a second. How can that be his record . . .oh it isn't. As a head coach the genius only has 3 titles 12 years as a head coach. Not quite as remarkable now. That includes a 36-44 record at Cleveland (.450 winning percentage) Even Wally Lemm had a .500 record after 139 games. This begs the question can a person become a genius?? Does just Superbowl victories alone make a genius or can Marv Levy be a genius for 4 appearances in 4 years? His "great defensive mind" has only had his defenses as an average as the 16th best in yards allowed throughout his 12 year career, including a 26 ranking last year. (4 of those 12 years only had 28 teams in the league so he was below the coveted .500 mark once again)
  4. Class. Maybe this is not a given trait of a genius, but I would think that someone as smart as Billy B would be able to earn, and teach respect. His teams classless dance on the bolts logo after a great (if not lucky) win showed the amount of control he has over a team that he gets credit for their successes. As a leader and a person that claims, and is generously doled, kudos on HIS contributions to a team, should the reverse be true also. After all a team seems to be a reflection of its coach in times of highs, but in lows many coaches seem to get separated from the pack. This coupled with the treatment of Mangini in the two meetings this year was despicable. The avoidance in the first meeting, and then the forced brotherly hug because he won the second meeting. blah! Class . . .

If I really tried (maybe stretched) I am sure I could come up with a few more, but I think those pretty much sum up the point I am trying to make.

I submit to you that the genius behind the Patsies Superbowl victories was Adam Vinatieri. Who kicked in the snow? Who ended the Superbowl? Who was missing this year, but still is on his way to Miama? One hint - not the "genius"

What I will concede: Belicheck has the longest winning streak of any coach. There I said it, but does that qualify his as a genius.

Think I'm wrong - blurt it out
